Hello,
I turned on my computer yesterday and my computer made the most awful screaming noise. I am thinking maybe some hardware is bad. I had recovered my whole system not long ago. brand new hard drive and power supply and cd rom. Is there a tool to diagnose if something else is bad?
Please help, this is maddening

You need to open up the machine and find out where to noise is coming from and let us know

It is probably a fan with bad bearings. You can usually find it by opening the case and touch each fan near the center of the fan blade (do not put fingers in the fan blades). If it stops or the sound changes, you have found the problem.

Can I replace the fan on motherboard or does the motherboard have to be replaced?

You should be able to replace the fan. Do you know what motherboard you have? The part number is usually painted on the board (many common ones start with A, K, or P).

Hi there,
I had a difficult time reading the print on the fan. Now I hope this is what you are asking about. My computer is an emachine T2200. On the fan the model number is F601SR12HA
and the painted number is E2381 or E2361, looks like a 6. Is this helpful?
Thanks,
