..'puter starts itself???

    ...Windows 98.....56 modem.
    ....before going online, I used the phone to call a friend and dialed a wrong number. I hung up before the other end answered. They then dialed ' # 69 ' and our computer came on!!!!!!!!

    There are setttings within windows to do a number of things with your modem and phone line other than the normal net connection. The computer may be configured to send and receive faxes, To act as an answering machine, and to connect to another computer on request. In order to accomplish some of these tasks, the computer can be brought out of standby by an incoming call. Perhaps this is what happened in this case.
