Went to open my QB this morning and it said that I needed an update, which I down loaded. The computer requested I reboot before I could open QB. Thought this was odd because I hadn't opened QB so how did It know I needed and update? I have not rebooted my computer. I found the above file was downloaded . When I look for information on what it is I am directed to Malware sites,but it doesn't tell me what it is. windows 7 professional, QB 2019

Hi.

Welcome to TSG.

I assume you are referring to Quick Books?

What issues are you experiencing with the computer?

=============================

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. --> IMPORTANT

If your antivirus software detects the tool as malicious, it's safe to allow FRST to run. It is a false-positive detection.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click the FRST icon to run the tool. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button and wait for a while.
  • The scanner will produced two logs on your Desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.
  • Please attach the content of these two logs in your next reply.

I have cannot recall QuickBooks ever asking me to down load an update and then requesting me to reboot the computer, without having already logged in to the program. I found the qbchang file. When I go to find out what the file is it keeps directing me to malware sites. is this some form of malware? Thanks

Before I suggest any fix (and indeed, it needs to be fixed) I would like to know if the computer belongs to you or to a company (your work). If the latter is the case, I can't help you. It is against the Forum's Rules.

So again, is it a personal computer or it belongs to a company and you use for your work?

It belongs to the company and I use it for work. I guess it is time to call a professional. I will however be using the forum for my home computer which seems to be taking longer and longer to boot up, which is a whole other story. Thank you for time

The best for you is to ask for help from the IT Department of the company. The computer needs ... cleaning, not for the QB update file, but for other things.

Any time. You are very welcome. :)
