Hey I just recently switched to AOL high speed and I got the modem yesterday.I was wondering when I shut off the computer do I leave it connected to the internet? And do I unplug the power source?

Most DSL providors prefer that you leave the modem on all the time . . your providor should be able to tell you what is best for your situation

The modem will not overheat if left on.
Hackers can invade your computer, and that's why you need to have a firewall installed. Windows XP SP2 has a decent, simple one built in. ZoneAlarm is a free one that many people use.

Mine has been on for four years now . . working fine. I leave the modem on and turn the pc off overnite, but many leave their pc's on 24/7. I have a router between the modem and the pc's in addition to software firewalls (SP2 firewall) on each machine

My cable modem is on 24/7, it's been that way for years. :)
