Not the most tech savvy when it comes to networking, but i'm currently looking to get a new router today because the router we currently have I feel as though is broken. If the router is moved slightly the router goes off and so does the internet. The router and modem is in another room to me however i run an ethernet cable through the wall, which i feel as though doesn't even 'improve'the connection compared to wi-fi. I live in Melbourne, Australia and the download speed i usually get is very inconsistent but mostly around 15-25 mb/s. I do game on my XBOX one and when downloading games it can get bad with constant dropouts and slow speeds.

So do i have to get a new router, or potentially router-modem?

It may be as simple as a power cord. But if the device you have is a few years old then maybe a new one would be a better option.
