    Hello guys,

I have an old motherboard that only supports SATA 1.5 Gigabit hard drive. I was wondering if I buy a SATA 3.0 Gigabit hard drive and plug it into my computer. Will it work? Will there be any problems with the transfer rate ( outside of being slower, obviously) or the health of the hard drive or motherboard?

    Thank you.

It won't make and difference, sata drives are backwards compatible.
If you but a sata 2/ 3.0 drive it will run at half speed on your machine
You will find some sata drives have jumpers to set the transfer rate
