I have been using Skype for years and have numerous contacts there. I live in South Korea and use a VPN but for some reason, Skype does not "see" me living in the States via the VPN, but, instead, sees me living here in South Korea. And, as a result the only way that I have found where I can buy Skype credits is via a Korean Microsoft Partner through their website. The website is all in Korean, and it appears that if I could read Korean (which I can't) I would have to use Korean won to purchase the credits and use a Korean bank account; (I don't have a Korean bank account.)

Can anyone suggest a good alternative to Skype? I really would like to export/import all of my Skype contacts into a now Skype-like provider if possible. I like Skype because I can speak with people in the States very inexpensively.

Any and all suggestions/ideas are more than welcome.

SpywareDr, I think that this issue has been solved. Over a period of several days I "chatted" with several Microsoft Skype techs (including a supervisor) who eventually advised me to try to purchase a Skype gift card on the Korean economy and then try to use the validation numbers on the back of the card to try to add to the credits. Well I was able to locate Skype gift cards on the Korean economy and I was able to add the credits to my Skype account. Thanks for your messages and for your suggestions.

Rather strange suggestion, especially from a Microsoft Tech . . . well, from the ones I know anyway. I certainly wouldn't ever consider doing such a thing, but whatever. If it worked for you, great! (y)
