Does anyone have ideas on which backup software I should get. I need to make a copy of my C drive over to my D, so I can do a clean install of XP Home without loosing all my presious data.

    I am considering:
Drive Copy (is this compatible with XP?)
    Ghost (I dont like norton...but...)

Please post back with any ideas.

This is a pretty good deal on Norton System Works Pro 2002 for $35 plus about $5 shipping. Besides Ghost you get Norton AV, Norton Utilities, Cleansweep, WinFax and GoBack. http://www.directdeals.com/product.asp?id=1756

It is the retail CD and not OEM. You get full support and updates. The manuals are on the CD. I got the 2001 version from them a year ago and it worked fine. I’m considering getting the 2002 version to try GoBack. I’ll install the individual programs without the System Works shell this time. I’m not crazy about Utilities, but it has a couple of good points if you disable anything from running without your calling on it. The other components are excellent.

Ghost and Drive Image seems to be a Ford – Chevy thing. Some people prefer one and some the other. I use Ghost and it works fine. I hear Drive Image is excellent and a little easier to use as it is more Windows than command oriented.

Symantec has some excellent Ghost tutorials on their site to make up for their hard to follow manual. These are also good: http://radified.com/Ghost/ghost_1.htm and http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/image2.html

Thanks slipe. I looked at that page, and decided that it is an ultimate deal, as I just paid $70 for Ghost 2002 alone!!! $35 for the whole suite is unbeliveable. Thanks a lot. I will mark this solved.
