I've been stuck two generations behind for a long time. Only recently I've gotten into components that have PCI-Express beyond video cards. I haven't been able to find a simple, to-the-point answer to one question that's been bugging me for months.

I have a motherboard that has 2 PCI-Ex16 slots. The PCI-Ex1 slot's covered by the video card. Can I put my PCI-Ex1 SATA RAID card into the other video slot (PCI-Ex16)? I'm not using SLI or Crossfire, only one video card.

Someone please give a yes or no, and whether or not it would be dangerous to anything.

Yes you can use the x16 slot with a x1 device, each doubling simply doubles the bandwidth but allows backward and in most cases forward compatibility.

See here for more info on PCI-e: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express
