I was having CRC problems so I took one of the RAM sticks out which was on the 3rd slot, the problem got fixed. RAM is installed in pairs right? like 1,3 and 2,4 so there be a problem with my 3rd slot right? Will it be safe to install my other RAM in slot 2?

RAM does not need to be installed in pairs, except for old and obsolete RAMBUS. However it usually is to benefit from something called dual channel which can increase memory bandwidth.

You should test the RAM with Memtest86+: http://www.memtest.org/

And try the one you think is faulty by itself and with the rest of the RAM.
