All of a sudden, when I try to backup my data in Quicken Premier 2018, I get an error message that informs me that Quicken is "Unable to write to Drive C" and that the "File was NOT backed up". I have absolutely no idea what happened. I even tried re-installing the program to start anew, but met with the same glitch. Oddly enough, it WILL backup to an external thumb drive -- just not to my computer's C drive. I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to correct this problem. Thanks in advance.

Backups should always be to a different drive.

Perhaps, but that reply doesn't provide any assistance with this problem.

How full is this C drive?

You are not alone with this one.
I found many hits using Google and there are also some using 2019.

Not very much: 192GB used out of an available 456GB

Haven't done so yet, but will tomorrow. Tried Microsoft today and was told was Quicken was the source of the problem, not Windows. Oddly enough, however, the very same problem has arisen with another financial program -- my tax preparation software, TaxACT. Can't save my return to C drive. Guess I'll call them too. Wish me luck.

Quicken and TaxAct support were of no help, but I've solved the problem!! Turns out that it was the "Ransomware Protection" setting within Windows Defender that was causing the problem, It was somehow set to "On" for "Controlled Folder Access" -- perhaps by the latest Windows Update -- and this was preventing some of my programs from writing to my hard drive. Hope this works for others with similar problems.

Thanks for reporting back. Good detective work on your part!
I'm sure others will have the same problem and hopefully will find this thread and see how you solved it.
