I am having a problem with Quicken 2004 now wanting to open. I also cannot un-install it so I can try reinstalling. I called Quicken and they said the problem is with Microsoft "installer cleanup" and they sent me a link to download this program to fix it all up. However the link they pointed me at will not open. Can anyone help me cure this problem?

Hiya and welcome

Are you receiving any error's when you try to open it, or does it just freeze?

Also, can you point us to the link that you were to download

Regards

Hi eddie5659,
In answer to your questions:
When I click on the icon to open Quicken the program starts to open like it always did but the first window to show is the red rectangle with Quicken on it. I have found that I can try to close the program and always on the third try the program opens.

As to errors: I get the following errors:
"could not load SKUmap" After attempting to close the window I get the error message: "please visit www.quicken.com/cgi-binn/qd.cgi/w/2002/fi_alert" to see if this is server related issue, or try reinstalling Quicken to resolve the issue. When I click on this link the program opens. However I have to go through this each time I try to open Quicken. I have used Quicken since 1993 and have had no problems. I cannot un-install quicken either through Microsofts "add and remove programs" program nor by using Quicken's uninstall program in their folder.

I have tried un installing a couple of other programs through the Windows installer / uninstaller program and they worked. I cannot, however, get Quicken to uninstall through the Windows instller program. I have tried un installing Quicken with the un installer command in the Quicken folder with NO results either.

eddie5659,
I went through the full procedure as listed in "additional information" , installed file, did the one step upgrade. Then rebooted and still had the same problem. As I stated I can filnally get Quicken to open by clicking on the program icon which opens the red quicken window. Then nothing happens and I click on close down 3 (three) times and then the progam opens. I am lost. I would really like to un install the program and try re installing it but that doesn't work either. If you have any further ideas please let me know; if not thanks for the help.

Do you not have the program on a disk? Also, what happens if you try via AddRemove, or the Uninstall folder in Start | programs?

Lets see what you have running, as something may be conflicting:

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Re-run HT, and tick the following:

O8 - Extra context menu item: Get It With Kontiki - res://C:\Program Files\Kontiki\bin\bh309190.dll/201

Close all Internet Windows, and click Fix

Going to get someone else to doublecheck the log to see if there is anything missing. Still learning these things myself :)
