I am considering buying this card (RADEON HD 3870 x2 1gb ddr3) to upgrade a win xp build that I have a geforce 8400 gs in I have a 550 watt psu installed and I calculated the power I'm pulling and it's at 380 watts. This card will pull another 60 watts and it has 2 connectors on it a 6 and 8 pin I read the 6 pin is for 75 watts and the 8 is for 100 watts if i remember correctly. My question is do I need a connector from my psu for both of these connectors or just one b/c my psu only has the 6 pin connector and the pci-e supplies 75 watts and the 6 pin supplies 75 watts and the card pulls 100 watts so it seems to me logically I only need the 6 pin to get the power I need, right or wrong.

I GOT THE POWER CONSUMPTION ON THIS CARD WRONG SORRY GUYS.

If that were the case they would not say that both the 6 pin and 8 pin connectors are needed, which it plainly states. What is the make/model of your PSU?

Two (2) rear expansion slots
