In regards to getting the best performance from ram, would it be better to install 2 pieces of 512MB DDR 3200 or a single stick 1GB DDR 3200? Why?

Thanks in advance,
Timone

Generally two smaller sticks are better for performance then one large one. The biggest reason, and only if your motherboard supports it, is something called Dual Channel. With Dual Channel two identical sticks are treated as a single 128 bit path instead of a 64 bit path. Another reason is latencies, usually with larger capacity modules the latency increases. So for example you may get a 256MB stick with CL2 and a 1GB stick with CL3, with 3 being longer then 2.

Hello,
Triple6, you are now putting dual channel in the picture, Just regarding single channel what would be best?

Thanks

I mentioned that above as well. But any differences would be minimal and depend on each specific motherboard and RAM combination.
