I'm wondering weather I should buy

    Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4

    Or

    GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz

Both the same price, but which do you think would be best for gaming?

I'm not a gamer myself, but from what I've seen on this forum, you would be hard pressed to beat Corsair RAM. Check out pricing here. I'm sure others will chime in on this.

I would go with the crucial memory but that's just my opinion.... wait for other, more-experienced opinions.

And remember to get the right type of memory for your motherboard. PC5300 and PC2-6400 aren't the same.

I would also consider Corsair as mentioned.

I can get Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 for £3 more, probably my best option.

I know they're not the same, but as its gonna be on an AM2 board I'm looking upto 6400 - but as the freq goes up so does the price

Geil 2x 1 gb bigger latency = less perfomance

    Crucial 2x 1gb or 2x 512mb lower latency = better perfomance

hmm Corsair 2x 1gb or 2x 512mb or 2x256mb low latency = much better perfomance

...quantity doesn't mean better perfomance quality is :)

The frequency goes up, the price goes up, but the wait time doesn't differ TOO much. I'de go with Corsair either way.

Just curious.. what type of processor are you gonna get for your fancy am2 board?

I'm just gonna stick a 4200+ on there, havn't got the cash for the bigger numbers.

Right, it's either gonna be a Crucial Ballistix, 1gb at 800MHz or a gig of Corsair at 675MHz. They have same latencies, and the corsair at lower freq is much cheaper. Would you reccomend I go for the slightly slower corsair because of its underlying quality, or should I go for the crucial as it's higher freq?

    Opinions?
