Ok this is a little bit of an odd one and I can't seem to find anything on the net about it.

Whenever I try to open multiple sites, I will get a DNS lookup failure. Whenever I torrent something, websites give me a DNS lookup failure. Watch Youtube and open anoter site, DNS lookup failure. It seems that when I try to use too much internet I crash something... which doesn't make any sense because this problem has only come up recently. The only thing that I can think of is that I was messing around with the DNS to be able to connect to the American Netflix (I'm Canadian). I was using a site called "ZenOK" I believe, which gives you a server to connect to, and then a week later tells you it's no longer free (which they didn't mention in the signup)... so I removed the DNS number in my internet protocols, but I still get American Netflix anyways.... am I making any sense here or what?

we cannot help with by passing country restrictions or with torrents

but we can get the PC back to working normally

check for a proxy and also post an ipconfig /all please
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should work for all windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R
    For Windows 8
to open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

    then type CMD

then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
    to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
    Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

i tried pinging the DNS 64.71.255.198 and it timed out - so its possible it maybe your ISP DNS
comes back as Rogers Cable and canada - so maybe OK

but lets see the dns settings on the PC - see below

and perhaps change to use google open DNS
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if that resolves the issue - see how below

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
how to show the IP and DNS settings screen

how to show the IP and DNS settings screen
    Start> {search bar in Vista/W7}> run {for XP}> type ncpa.cpl
that should open your "network connections" dialogue box
click on the adapter you want to see the properties information for - "local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection"
right click on the icon - from the menu choose
    properties
    click on
Internet Protocol Version 4 (tcp/ipv4) entry
    click on
    properties button
Now lets see a screen shot of those settings

To post a screen shot of the active window.
    Windows XP
Hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

    Vista or Windows 7
you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

    Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
    >Press the Esc. key.
    >go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
    >Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are available here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Posting_a_Screenshot

    Google public DNS
Note using google public DNS servers from outside the US may actually slow performace - so use the following as a test to identify DNS issues - if these resolve the issues , then we need to investigate further to optimise the use of DNS

    Google public DNS
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Theres also a link on how to setup those DNS IP address up on a PC
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html

    How to set XP here
    http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/google-public-dns-on-win7-and-winxp.html

Then once you have set up those DNS entries

    Flush & register DNS

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):
In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands:

    Ipconfig/flushdns
    ipconfig/registerdns

    If you receive the message
    The requested operation requires elevation.
Then please open the command prompt as administrator
Start> All Programs> Accessories and then right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

    now type the command again

My IPV4 settings are all on automatic. Every time I try to use static it never works out.

I used the Google DNS and I could only open Google related pages.

I used the flush and it didn't seem to do anything except that I could not connect to any sites for 5 minutes.

i was hoping to esablish if this a router /ISP issue or just your PC - anyway to try one of the other devices and see if you get the same error

the ipconfig /all does not show a google open DNS being used did you change the settings back at all

would you change to open dns and post back the ipconfig /all

in the background run this ping test program - and then try to recreate the issue
    http://code.google.com/p/internetconnectivitymonitor/

and setup to ping google.com and yahoo

You work at crazy hours man. I'll get back to you after work.

Yes I did reset everything after trying the open server. I couldn't even get back on here to reply while I had it changed.

I can't test the other computers because they belong to my landlord

sounds like to torrent maybe using all the bandwidth
try pinging the IP number you get from google.com instead of google on the application and see if that drops

What IP number are you talking about?

I've didn't have this problem before I was messing around with Netflix. I've was able to run multiple torrents and do online stuff at the same time and didn't have any problems
