Hey, I am getting random restarts..here's the situation:

Before, I have this self-built computer. It rocks, no problems at all, no random restarts, run all games perfectly (in my eyes)...

For Christmas, I am visiting my parents till like January 10th, so I decided to bring my computer. During the car ride here, it didn't tip over or anything, it was perfectly safe, no hard bumps or anything.

It currently had 512mb of pc3200 ram, and while here, it would replace my parent's current computer, which I also built. I took out the pc2700 ram and put it in my current one just to beef up the performance, since the other computer wouldn't be used..

Now, my computer is having random restarts, no idea why...could it be because I have a stick of 512mb pc3200 ram (mine) and then a stick of 128mb pc2700, a stick of 256mb pc2700 ram, but my computer is still running at a 400mhz memory frequency (which is for pc3200)? Should I lower the frequency to that of a pc2700 to stop these random restarts? just take out the extra ram?

Any other suggestions/comments?

Yes. It's probably because of mismatched ram. If this were to be only a temporary thing i don't think it's worth the headache of tweaking timings to get them to work together.

If you overclock RAM, you run the risk of getting memory errors (these will show up in Memtest). Memory errors can cause random reboots. That's most likely what your problem is, especially since that appears to be the only variable.

How can I change this? Can I make it so my 512mb pc3200 stick runs at the frequency of a pc2700?

that sucks..i was hoping to have 896mb of ram, but eh, i guess i could just buy some more with my xmas money :D
