This is a confusing one and really, I've run out of ideas. First I''l descrive the problem.

The machine will suddenly restart - no error, nothing even in the system event log. Just - click - restarting. However, sometimes instead of restarting, everything seems to shut off, and the powerlight on the front case starts to blink. At this point the *only* thing to do is turn off the PSU and let the power drain from the mothboard until the light stops blinking, nothing else will allow me to start the machine.

What I know is the CPU is not overheating (45 on the CPU, 50 to 70 on the GPU). The power coming into the PSU is stable. I don't think its ram as a ram error should give an error or crash, not power off the machine. Its not the install of XP as I have installed the system 3 times now, each time on a different HD. I've updated all the drivers that can be updated.

Its very very hard to test if its under any specific conditions as its almost random. I've had the machine on for 2 days with no problem, I'll be typing away - it'll happen. Then another day, it'll be on for 4 hours, I'll be playing a game, suddenly reboots.

There is no virus on this machine, or spyware. I don't run much third party background software (mainly Avast Antivirus and MSN are running most times).

I'm using am Apple USB keyboard off an old computer (heh I happen to like it, before any one asks) and a generic USB mouse (plugged into the USB Hub in the Apple Keyboard).

Two of the HDs are SATA, one is standard IDE. The DVD drive is IDE. The drives do get pretty hot sometimes, but also, I would imagine this not causing such an error. The IDE dirve is also rather old (in computer terms, its a 20gb) but I have no reason to think its faulty unless some one can tell me that this issue can be related for sure.

I think thats all I can think of right now. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, this has been driving me nuts (and the people who use my Vent server).

Oh and I don't get "Your computer has recovered from a serious error." or anything like that. The machine doesn't know its had a problem.

Sounds to me like the power supply going bad. Other than replacing it I don't know how to test that theory.

It could be that, given the cheap no-name brand I use. But before I go an buy and more expensive one, I'd like to make sure there's nothing else it *could* be :)
