So I have the same problem with my laptop computer shutting off by itself. It is a Lenovo 3000, N200, about 1 year old. It randomly shuts off while I am using it, this has occurred about 7-8 times in the past 3 weeks. Does the same advice apply, should I try to open it up somehow and clean it out? Am not really familiar with laptops.

Does the video card have a fan? Is it working properly and if yes how dusty is it? Can you look through the heatsink/fan over the processor? Is it impacted with crud? If it's none of this then I would say psu needs replacing.

    Hi, thanks for the help.

How do I find out if the video card has a fan? There is a fan in the computer on the left-hand side toward the back where I can feel air coming out but when I shine a light I can't see anything, there seems to be a grating there. To determine how dusty it is and what the heatsink/fan look like I suppose I'll have to open the computer up? I'll look on the Lenovo website for instructions on how to do it.

Independently, my computer over the last few months has not been lasting more than a few minutes when it's not plugged into a power supply. I imagine this would be a problem with the computer battery and not the psu?

    Many thanks!!

We need to get your post moved as I didn't realize you are not the original poster with a laptop and while there may be need to clean out your laptop, you don't have a video card with a fan.

Thanks for moving the post. Do I still need to consider the power supply unit and what is my next step?

To recap, if my Lenovo laptop is not plugged into an outlet, it does not last more than a few minutes without the battery running out.

I have only been using it connected to an outlet for the past 6 months but now it randomly shuts itself off in the middle of use without warning, this has probably happened ~10 times in the last couple weeks and it seems to be getting more frequent.

    Appreciate any advice!
