Have you tried reprogramming the remote to the DVD player's device code that you used when you first set it up to work correctly?

If there is any possibility that the code somehow got changed on the remote, you will need to reprogram it. If your brand of DVD player has more than one code, you may need to try all of them to see which one gives you the most funtionality.

I only run two devises on this remote, the TV and the DVD player, the TV works fine and the DVD did for a long time, I wonder if the actual DVD is not working

Do you still have the remote that came with the DVD player? If so, does it operate all of the player's functions?

If the Aux1 and Aux2 markings on the TV remote are for buttons to select using the same remote with other devices, you could check the TV's owner's manual to see if you can set up the Aux2 button to the codes that support your DVD player.

Beyond that, I have no other suggestions for resolving the problem.

If one of the remote's Aux buttons can be configured to switch the remote's other buttons to operate the DVD player, the remote should not care if or how the DVD player is actually connected to the TV.

This is directly from the owners manual

    Using the remote control to
    control your other devices

If you have a non-Toshiba device or a Toshiba device that the
remote control is not preprogrammed to operate, you must
first program the remote control to recognize the device (if
you have not already done so) ( pages 25–27).
To use your TV remote control to operate a:
Cable converter box or satellite receiver, set the MODE
    SELECT switch to CABLE/SAT.
VCR, set the MODE SELECT switch to AUX 1.
DVD player or HTIB, set the MODE SELECT switch to
    AUX 2.
Note: Even after the TV remote control is programmed, it
may not operate certain features on any other devices. If this
happens and you wish to use those features, you will need to
use the device’s original remote control.

Sounds like you first need to check if your Toshiba TV remote supports operating your paticular brand of DVD player. If it does, you may be able to program the Aux2 MODE selection to operate it.
