Hello One and All

Since Acer gave up on me completely - they literally said they could not accept my Aspire 5520-5147 laptop for repair (no parts) - I am hoping to rebuild the core drivers (and DLLs) with the Vista DVD. I do not want to run a complete install, however.

Yes...........I already setup Windows Update to look for drivers and Yes.......I have been using the original Acer codecs and even the RealTek and still no audio device shows up at all. Restoring to an earlier point does not correct the problem, either.

Since I cannot definitively diagnose the malfunction (or not ) of the RealTek ALC268 (tech says too old!) sound chipset, I am willing to edit the registry tree and/or re-install the originals from a Microsoft Vista Ultimate DVD.

Any Ideas?? Thanks :(

BTW - the laptop is only 3 years old.

In answer to your questions..................Yes.

I was sitting by the fire sipping tea and it occured to me that maybe an Englander would make a supercilious suggestion in this forum.

Lovely...hope you enjoyed your tea, and yet with such an answer...it only goes to prove my theory that Nemesis really exists. You come to a forum for help, give minimal information and when given a response choose to reply in such a fashion. Good luck with your problem...'cos I'm certainly not going any further
