Hello,

My xp pro installation is really bloated and unreliable, and I want to reinstall it.

I have a legitimate copy of XP Pro, and a sony laptop with no recovery disk and no drivers available on the web(believe me I've looked!)

If I backup my windows folder and "documents and settings" folder onto another hard drive, and do "format c: and then reinstall, will I be able to find all the drivers for graphics etc??

or should i try an in-place reinstall (does that keep the current drivers installed?

What about re-activation???

thanks guys

steve

If Sony does not have drivers for your laptop, then there is no “Guarantee” that xp will have the drivers. Since you are running xp now [and I presume everything is working] there must be drivers somewhere for your laptop.

If you clean install, then yes you will need to reactivate. If you do a repair install of xp, then you should not have to reactivate.
