I have been using it for a while .... recently found the upgrade to 1.4 and installed it. Now I have problems.

It refuses to do the backups saying there are too many characters.

here is a screen shot showing the message and the WindowsExplorer screen showing there is no such directory.

I tried deleted all IE temp files as a workaround and that did not help.

Any helpful ideas would be appreciated.

I loved synctoy ... seemed a no BS way of doing backups to another hard disk. But it has given me troubles of late. It complains about overly long file path/names on the destination side of the backup. (see the screen shots in my original post) I am not sure what to do about that.

    Is there a known workaround?

I tried simply deleting all those really long filenames in the IE temp/cache file area. That didn't work.

Is there a better, more flexible and tolerant backup methodology?

I have the same problem occasionally and I just go to the file and shorten the file name, move it to a directory one level up or shorten the directory names, or all of the above and it always seems to fix the problem.

I have been wondering if there is a more powerful version of some similar program available. This one is very useful but could use a few more refinements. I am going to keep using it though.

If it were just one file that would work ... but it is many of them, those temp files that IE keeps to refresh web pages often have so many subcommands buried in the URL that they get rather long.

Besides, there is a further problem .... deleting the entire source directory does not seem to help.
