I have recently been having problems with various bugs on my computer - win32.sdbot-gen3,
win32:trajan-gen,win23.sdbot-2974, win32:Adloader-g. I've tried deleting them with avast, but htey seem to re-appear. Someone recommended hijackthis, but i'm having difficultues reading teh log. I wonder if someone might be so kind as to have a look at the log??

I see that you don't have Hijackthis in a permanent folder. This needs to be done before we "fix" any entries in Hijackthis.
Please download Mosaic1's Move_hijackthis.zip from Here

Choose "Open" from the dialog box.
When the zip opens, you'll see a file named Move hijackthis.vbs in the folder.
Double click on Move hijackthis.vbs to run it.

If you get a warning about a malicious script please ignore that and allow this to run, it is not harmful.

When the script has finished running, it will start Hijackthis from its new location:
C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\hijackthis.exe
the next time you want to run it either go to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
[or]
Click Start >Run and type hijackthis and press "enter".
then post a new HJT log

go to start/run and type services.msc press OK
when the screen opens scroll down to MicroSoft Media Tools right click and select properties and then on that page press stop service and then set the start up type to disabled, press ok a few times to get back to windows

be very careful to get the right one as there are several similar named ones there

now open HJT press config/misc tools and select delete an NT service

paste this into the box & press OK

MicroSoft Media Tools

Download pocket killbox from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe & put it on the desktop where you can find it easily

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NTSF MICROSOFT SYSTEM] winsis32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NTSF MICROSOFT SYSTEM] winsis32.exe

O23 - Service: MicroSoft Media Tools - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\MSmedia.exe (file missing)

now Start killbox, go to options on the top bar and make sure remove directories is enabled and remove duplicates is UNCHECKED paste the first file listed below into the full pathname and file to delete box

The file name will appear in the window, select delete on reboot , press the red X button, say yes to the prompt and NOto reboot now then repeat for each file in turn

[Note: Killbox makes backups of all deleted files & folders in a folder called C:\!killbox ] If Killbox tells you any files are missing don't worry but make a note and let us know in your next reply

C:\WINNT\MSmedia.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\winsis32.exe

Then on killbox top bar press tools/delete temp files, in the pop up box in the NT section select temp & temp internet & cookies only and in the 9x section select c:\windows\temp & c:\temp then on the drop down user account box, select your account, then repeat for every user account on the computer

then reboot & post a fresh HJT log

then

Now your windows version W2K SP2 is very out of date anmd open to all sorts of attacks so you need to get SP4 & all subsequent updates

it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

In that case SP2 hasn't got the reqired system files to run it so

delete these manualy

after running HJT reboot &

go to start/run and type %temp% and when that folder opens select everything and delete it all

then
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

then go to C:\winnt\temp and select EVERYTHING except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete all that and then do the same for C:\temp if it exists

1) Open Control Panel
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive

open windows explorer & find them and right click them and select

C:\WINNT\MSmedia.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\winsis32.exe

I've manages to open killbox, and done as you said, except the sp4 downloas was 'incomplete' or something - I'll try it again.

I'm getting a message that svchost.exe has generated errors & will be closed by windows. After this pops up i'm unable to cut and paste. At the moment it's happening almost as soon as I open the brower, hence i'm not able to paste the new HJT log. Any idea?

ps re the hedgehog donation, i'd rather make it by cheque - hope that's okay.
