Ok I have a laptop with windows98se and a desktop with the same os. I have a simple lan between them just for normal file shairing though MS Network Neighborhood, but I was speeking with a friend who says all the networking at his work(a bank) is all done in real time is there a way to do this with Network Neighborhood or do u need a special program?

Maybe you should describe why this is important to you.

"Real time" is a term normally used to describe a time critical process that must be accomplished within a specific time window. There is no "real time" networking option with Windows, what you see is what you get. If you want to do something closer to the bare metal, you could look into VC++ and WINSOCK programming. :D
