Ok, for some reason every once in a while my music just sounds...bad. Like, almost scratchy. I was wondering what could cause this, I'm pretty sure it's not my speakers, they've treated me well and I think they'd just die if anything happened to them. I have the latest drivers for my onboard sound, the connections are solid as well. Any ideas? Time to just get a sound card?

I had the same issue with my MCE box with the AC97. It woul dbe scratchy at times and really irritated me. I had jsut gotten the driver off of WindowsUpdate. I went to Realtek's website and downloaded the newest AC97 driver and fixed the problem.

AC97 Onboard Audio 3.83 Driver Released
    27 January 2006
Realtek have released Version 3.82 audio drivers for their AC97 audio chipsets, found on most motherboards with onboard audio solutions. If you're using onboard audio and are having problems, check this out as it may suit your motherboard. Otherwise it is not vital that you update.
