I've seen this issue resolved on here before, and it all seems to balance on a code that is different on all computers. I accidentally uninstalled something when I clicked on the wrong line. I hit cancel as soon as I saw what I did but it was too late. I have no sound on my old POS computer :( Help tech support guy. Help!

I'll even send cookies to whomever helps!

Go here, then select one of the "Download @ MajorGeeks" links to download and save the WDM_A406.exe file.

After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click it to start the install process.

Follow the directions carefully from there.

Note: This is the most current Windows XP driver for the Realtek AC'97 Audio device.

What's the brand name and model name and model number of that computer?

I tried that link and ran the program. When the driver update was done it said "the wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed"

Did you download and save and attempt to install that Realtek audio driver - or - did you try to update the audio driver via the Device Manager driver update feature?

I saved it to my desktop and ran it. When that didn't work I tried updating it from the device manager. So both,

Have you tried Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore and then selecting a date and time prior to when you made your little "boo boo"?

I just did. I picked three different dates and each one failed.

Since we don't know what you did to lose the sound, and why System Restore isn't working, you may need some "hands on" help by someone computer-knowledgeable.

Any idea what it was you deleted (file name)? Recuva can recover any kind of file that has been deleted. If it was a .dll, it might be recoverable. I don't know what happens to deleted registry keys...
