Hi

A very happy & merry christmas to u all.

I was working on preparing a document on 'what possible reasons can lead to a hard disk failure' for branded PC's like Dell,HP,Compaq etc..

If anyone can provide some useful info on this, i will b very glad.

Thanks in advance

In my opinion the #1 killer of HDD's is heat. I'm sure others have different opinions.

I would have to agree with heat bing #1, but there are other reasons as well. Handling, Power supply failure can kill a drive as can a power surge.

Branded or custom it really makes little difference in what system the drive comes in; the drives are all made by the same group of manufacturers.

The biggest is simply manufacturing imperfections and/or defects. Fujitsu, IBM, and lately Maxtor drives have all suffered from serious manufucturing problems. All three companies have either sold off their hard drive manufacturing in part or in whole.
