    Hello,

    I work for a company that is developing a point of sale software:

    And we want it to work on a Linux platform, what are some recommended programming languages that would work perfectly on a Linux platform?

    C and C++ compilers are freely available for download or come installed in some Linux distributions (aka gcc and g++).

    However, your application requirements should figure in to selecting the best language for the project. PoS software is a business application. COBOL is usually used for business software, whereas, C and C++ although considered high-level languages are quite good at interfacing with assembler (machine language) software if that is a requirement of the PoS software your company is doing.
