    Hey guys,

I need to record a VGA signal (preferably on a laptop) so that it can be backed up and played later. I also need to be able to live stream this signal on a website.

The signal is coming from a security camera (within a nature zone) and is reaching its destination monitor (through a server) via VGA signal.

    What would you guys recommend?

    Thanks,
    Aidan.

Why wouldn't you just connect to the server to view the camera?

We have an internal school server which is accessed by all of the classrooms. Do you mean it can be viewed externally by accessing the server from outside the school?

    Sorry, I'm a newbie with servers/etc.

    Aidan.

Yes, with the correct settings in your school's routers and any firewalls, the internal server could be accessible from the Internet. The server and potentially any computer on the internal LAN would be accessible to hackers on the Internet, sniffing around for vulnerable computers to attack. A knowledgeable network administrator should be able to configure the server and network hardware to minimize such risks.

Yes, there would be likely be numerous ways to access the server or the camera software directly. But all of that is dependent on the setup at the school. The system/network administrator would be the one that would have to allow this and configure it. There may also be legal issues if the video feed is of students or staff.
