So, the other day my friend took some pictures and videos at a concert and when we got home she plugged the SD card she used into her iPad and accidentally deleted all of the pictures and videos.
We downloaded a few demos of photo/ video recovery softwares and the only one that recovered anything was called Lexar, but half off the pictures and all the videos were just blank and gray (theres a little line in the top right corner where you can see what the picture is) so we bought the software, thinking they may only be gray because the demo wouldn't recover them all, but they still recover as gray.
No files have been added to the SD card since the pictures were deleted.
Also, the photos it recovers are not the most recently taken. There are recovered photos that were deleted years ago, but some of the ones taken a few days ago are blank.
I really need those pictures. Any ideas on how to get them back?
(I use a Macbook Pro, btw)

The iPad doesn't have an SD card slot.

I didn't think it mattered, but if it does I can call her and ask her what brand it was.

What were the pictures and videos taken with? Has anything other than a non-Apple SD card adapter and iPad been used to attempt to read the card? What about the original device?

I've never seen a legitimate SD card adapter for an iPad. What would your friend have used for an app to read it?

    No SD card adapter here:
    https://www.apple.com/ipad/accessories/

If the card isn't readable in a computer or the original camera, the data is probably corrupted.

It is readable in my computer and in its original camera. She just wanted to put the pictures on her iPad and accidentally deleted them in the process. (I tried to put them on my computer first, but she insisted on doing it.)
She has uploaded pictures from her SD cards onto her iPad in the past. The only reason it went wrong was because she meant to press "deselect" when she accidentally selected all of the photos and accidentally pressed "delete."
And when I asked her what app she used to read it she said, "Its not an app its just the normal camera roll. Or photo thing I mean."
I think she means one called "My Photos," which I believe comes with the iPad.***

If I didn't make it clear, I'd just like to say I'm having trouble recovering deleted pictures, not trouble viewing (not-deleted) pictures.

The reasons why the recovered images are either blank or grey is they are corrupted images. Two cases are responsible for this: 1) the images were already corrupted before recovery 2) they went corrupted after recovery. Sometimes due to presence of bad blocks the recovered images may not be as it they were before. Now you have to look for a software that repairs the corrupted images. Like if the image are JPEG then search for JPEG repair and similar for other formats.
