Not sure where to put this so I will try here.

I have an user that has an USB 2TB drive that lost it's format. I am trying to recover the data (research) and I found some software called DiskGenius that I thought it would do the job... well it found the files but I guess I didn't read the fine print that I had to pay to recover...

So is there any software, whether its windows, linux, liveboot, etc that does recover files that is not limited to 500MB of data? (which should be more since drives are much bigger these days)/

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Testdisk is good for recovering partitions.
It's free, no limits.
Read the wiki on it for a primer on how to use it.
Thank you for this. This seems to be a good product, unfortunately I was not able to recover the data so the user will need to go to a specialist.
