I ordered recovery disks from for my HP compaq nc6000 laptop, which has XP Pro.

When I tried to do an installation using the disks I received, there were MANY files that could not be found on the recovery disks. I had no choice but to continue with the installation, and now my system is having problems.

Why do the recovery disks not have all the files necessary to do a system restore? Any idea how to fix the problems? For one thing, after booting, the mouse gets stuck, and I have to manually turn off the PC.

Call Compaq back and tell them the CD's are no good. They should replace them. Make sure to tell them what you are trying to do so they can get the right CD's out to you.

What files were missing? If you did a partial restoration and have loaded drivers for some hardware that were not original (Catalyst, for example), the reinstallation will still ask for those files.

There were so many files, there's no way I could write them all down. Many were DLL files, a handful were critical to the normal operation of my computer, the message said. I don't know how to do a full format of my system, and everytime I reboot, after a few minutes, the mouse is stuck, and the screen freezes.
