recovery error message

    Hello, My computer was stuck in a repair loop i was told i had corrupted file and needed to do a recovery on my NE Series 522 so i ordered the disc (which was 5 discs) and bought an optical CD drive to install when following the instuctions keep getting a boot configuration missing message even with system disc in cd drive and it goes back to looping on gateway screen. Also keep getting a repair your computer error message 0x0000185 message to insert installation media. Not computer savvy at all. Can someone help me? Thanks

    Are the 5 discs CDs or DVDs?

    Is the optical CD drive really just for CDs (not for DVDs)?

    Is the newly installed optical drive recognized in the BIOS (EDIT: probably should be UEFI)? Have you changed the boot order to boot from the optical drive?

    Hello. Yes its CDs and the optical drive takes cds or dvds. Since i posted this question i was finally able to get to the gateway recovery management screen now its stuck on please wait a moment about 30 now i rebooted it after waiting about 2 hours the last time.

    Any evidence (LEDs or noise) of hard drive or optical drive activity?

    Yes there wad noise when i inserted system disc then it stopped im hearing nothing now.

    Hello again i looked at the optical device and it is a dvd writer not cd my mistake. Would that make a difference?

    A DVD drive is fine; it can read CDs as well as DVDs.

    Okay thank you. Screen is now stuck on gateway recovery management page now any idea of whats going on? At my wits end.

    I followed the instructions to start recovery of my gateway ne 522 series and got to the gateway recovery management page it says please wait a moment was stuck 2 hours rebooted it and its doing the same thing again.

    Possibly a hard drive problem. And maybe that is the cause of the corrupted file?

    Possible memory defect.

    Possible problem with the CD.

    If nobody else here has suggestions try to contact Gateway for their ideas.

    I merged your threads here. Please do not start multiple threads on the same topic.

    The merged thread was in the Windows XP forum. This one is in Windows 8. What OS was on the system? What OS is on the 5 CDs?

    Sorry i put my question in the wrong place its a windows 8 OS yes ive been on gateway several times and since comp is no longer under warranty no hope there.

    Probably should have asked this earlier. What are the contents of the five CDs? I was thinking they were to "recover to factory defaults" but that was pretty stupid or careless thinking on my part. :( Windows 7 requires three DVDs, so not way could Windows 8 be only five CDs.

    The disk set contains 1 system disk 3 recovery and 1 language disk i wish it was just one much simpler.

    When i gave the gateway store my Snd number thats what was sent. Im new at this so dont really know the ins and outs just trying to fix my laptop without paying more than it cost when i bought it.
