recovery of win 95 "uninstalllms.exe" & "win.inifile"

    Inherited IBM Aptiva PC. Need to delete old programs to have space on the harddrive to install AOL; however, the "uninstallms.exe" and the "win.infile" are missing. Is there anyway to recover these files?

    Without the ability to remove old programs the PC is of no use. Won't be able to get online. Can't even print Word documents.

    Hiya and welcome

    What are the programs that you're trying to uninstall?

    For the win.ini, try this.

    Go to Run and type SYSEDIT

    In there should be the win.ini.

    Also, uninstallms.exe may be a trojan, so if its not here, that may be a good sign.

    However, as this isn't online, can we see a copy of your startup:

    Go here and download Startup Log. Doubleclick, allow the DOS window to close, then copy/paste the contents here:
