Ok, I will admit from the start that this is a trivial problem, but I'm still interested in fixing it. I am using Windows 2000 sp4. When I empty the recycle bin, I get the system beep instead of the sound that's supposed to be played (utopia recycle.wav in this case). I tried changing it to a different sound and it still didn't work. I went into the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound and changed the Beep key from yes to no. This disabled the beep, but the expected sound didn't play. In the control panel applet where you can click the little play button to preview a sound, it works fine, but when I actually empty the recycle bin it doesn't. I do use Norton Systemwork 2002 with the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin", but that hasn't changed the sound before. If anyone knows what triggers the sound to be played on this event, that could be useful info too.
