    Hello,

    Reinstalled all Sony Pre-Loaded software,
which did NOT include any Prior version of MS Office. (Other than a Trial
Version of Office 2003 which I never used or installed. It's still in my
computer) Have no idea what version it is. Simply doesn't say because it's never been installed. It's sitting in the same start menu as all of the other MS Office 2007 Programs.
In another message forum I was told to delete it. However, Office 2007 Pro worked fine for 2 days with the Trial program still sitting in the Start folder.

I managed to install MS Office Professional 2007 and it's worked
for 2 days without a hitch. Today, I get the error message when I try to use
Outlook "Cannot start MS Office Outlook. Cannot initialize MS Office Shared
Utilities. Restart your computer Or reinstall MS Office Outlook." No Luck!!
Also, when I try to start up MS Word, the message says "Not enought memory
to load Word." (I have 2 Gig of Ram and a 320 Gig hard Drive???)

When I insert the Office Pro 2007 disk to Reinstall, the message is: "The
path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradable product.
Click Try again or Cancel to quit setup."

I also don't have ANY previous versions of any Office Suite program to use.
I had Office 2003 Pro installed but that was deleted when I purchased Office 2007 Pro. I do have the disks for Office
    2007 Pro.

For the record, I am an American living in Cali, Columbia. It's over $4.00
a minute to call anywhere in the US for help.

I would sincerely appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone can
    provide.

NOTE: Also have Norton Internet Secuirty 2008 & Spysweeper installed.

    Thanks in advance,

    Robert

Hello Anne, Thanks for getting back with me. Read the article in your link but since you replied to me, I have another problem. I contacted Sony Support and they instructed me as follows:

"I did a chat with Sony and they said the same thing. First uninstall the existing MS Office Pro 2007, Then Install the 60 day Trial version of Office 2003. Then uninstall it from Control Panel. Finally install the pre-installed MS Works VEr 8 so that it becomes the qualifying UPGRADE program that will allow me to re-install MS Office Pro.

    1. Only new nightmare/problem is that when I tried to uninstall the existing MS Office Pro 2007, I just got this message "The product installed has been corrupted. Run setup again from CD, DVD or other original installation source."

    2. Tried installing my OEM Sony Pre-installed MS Works Ver 8 so as to make this program the qualifying, upgradable program for me to re-install MS Office Pro 2007. Install worked fine but when I tried to re-install MS Office Pro over the existing installation, (since I can't Uninstall it) I got the same message as before as noted below.

I tried to run Setup again and keep getting the error message: "The path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradable product. Click Try again or Cancel to quit setup."

No matter which way I turn I'm in a Catch 22. This has been going on for nearly 2 for 2 days. I've read the MS Support article on Uninstalling MS Office when Add/Remove won't work in Control Panel. However, there is too much involved with fooling with the registry. I'm not that computer literate to even try changing the Registry. A couple of things, maybe, but the article lists many.

I'm frustrated enough to reformat again, however, the other day it took me 30 hours to download over 130 MS upgrades, security patches and SP 1's, 2's and 3's. (Top speed in Cali is 512 K for me) that would leave me in the same position I'm in now.

Namely, How do I get my MS Office Pro 2007 Upgrade program installed WITHOUT a qualifying MS Program or product.

So now what? Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

The Bottom Line: I don't relish having to re-format again, but will do it. The Key Question is:

How do I re-install my MS Office Pro 2007 UPGRADE program without a qualifying product???

But, thank you for replying and trying to help me.

    Robert

I just don't know anymore, Robert. I used to just create a text file and change its name to msworks.exe, but I'm so sure that won't work anymore, that I don't mind saying it.

Sorry... to my knowledge, you CAN'T install an upgrade without a qualifier. :(

I think they're full of it telling you to install 2003, tho. I don't understand their point of doing that.

    Hi Anne, a quick note:

I re-read your article link and it's far less complicated to do what she says than what Microsoft would have me do in the registry. I see the problem now. Both Office 2003 and 2007 have registry entries which may have led to the corruption.

If I understand her correctly, I can simply rename the Office registry entry to OLDOFFICE and then delete Office 2007 from my Programs folder.

All well and good if you agree. HOWEVER, I still have the same problem on the Reinstall of Office 2007,
namely, how do I reinstall my UPgrade Office with NO qualifying product???

Many thanks for your link. By far, this seems the simplest solution I've received so far from being on 3 different forums today. Much appreciated.

Hi Anne, NO, I didn't try installing over the existing installation. Great article by the way. AND, I'm glad I read the last article since I was about to uninstall the 60 day Trial version of MS Office that came bundled with my Sony. But, in order to uninstall it, I have to install it first since it doesn't show up in my Control Panel.

IF I follow your advice in your article, 1. Rename my Office entry in the registry 2. Delete all of Office from my Program folder. 3. Then try to reinstall Office 2007 again. Is that correct?

BTW, if that doesn't work, I found this suggestion on a forum:

"You are going to need an MS Office 2003 cd, either yours or one that is the
    same version
You can get your licence key via MagicJelly Bean, or Belarc Advisor, both
    free downloads."

I can get an Office 2003 disk from the University down here. Will that work? Or do you know? I can't believe I'm the only one in History to have to reformat my hard drive and now I'm out $400. for Office 2007. What if I purchased and downloaded MS Works 8 or 9 (which may be FREE or so I've read) is that an option?

    Thanks again,
    Robert
