Reformatting H.D.:

After reformatting and reloading Windows 98, I get some big yellow question marks in the Device Manager window of System Properties window.

Along with the big yellow question mark I get the message:

The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).

The two missing drivers they mention are:

• PCI Input Controller
• PCI Multimedia Audio Device

I have an Asus P5A socket 7 motherboard with an AMD-K-6(tm) processor chip.

From another computer I went to the Asus motherboard manufacturer’s site and downloaded these two drivers:

• ESS Solo-1 3D PCI audio driver for Win9x
• ALi M1541 IDE BusMaster (for P5A, P5A-B, P5A-VM).

Trying to load these drivers didn’t do any good. So I’m stuck – does anybody have any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks, Jim

First off are these the right drivers. And second does windows tell you these drivers are not the right ones if so tell it to go with them any if you are positive they are right.

www.driverguide.com
drivers/all
might help you find the right ones.

When I try to load the drivers - windows doesn't recognize them and asks if I want to look elsewhere.

Thanks, Jim

P.S.: I will now check out the link you gave me.

Hi Sir:

It looks to me like I need to have my computer on the internet or network. But when I plug the DSL cable into the network card, my computer freezes. So I think I'm unable to have DriveGuide evaluate my computer without having access to the internet. Is this true?

Thanks, Jim
