howdy and welcome. Instead of left clicking on it, right click and select 'merge'.

FYI, please do not go making random changes to the registry. It is a very small file that is very full of important bits and I can tell you right now that you may be biting off more than you can chew by trying to 'fix' it.

what are you trying to accomplish?

Tim, they say the option to merge is not there in the right-click menu. :)

Are you sure the file was saved as a .reg file and not a .txt file?

My description of it is a blue Rubik's Cube with some squares breaking away from it and a white piece of paper in the background. :)

If the file only opens as a text file (in Notepad), right-click the file (before opening it) and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

But that won't work if it's been saved as a .txt file. Also, they want to have the merge option in the right-click menu. I think that would appear as an option if the file was a .reg file because it's dependent on the type of file.

king-bee wrote it was a .reg file. I believe it may only be a bad association. Seen it before.

That may be the case and then it wouldn't have the .reg file icon which is what we're trying to determine.

I have associated .reg file with registry editor and the icon is a rubics cube as it should be but if I right click on it I have no merge option.
