Hi, yes, I did something really stupid! I was having major issues with laptop and as a last resort decided to reinstall Windows [should have been Vista]. However, I have two Dell Inspiron laptops and apparently used the wrong disc! I installed Windows XP. Now I have no internet as the Ethernet driver, and a few others, are showing errors. I looked in Device Manager etc and about 8 or 9 drivers were not installed.

Oh, and the correct Windows disc is in US with my computer wiz son, and I'm over in UK! So . . . . is there anyway to install the missing drivers? Or even get Dell or Microsoft to help me get the correct version of Windows to reinstall?

I have internet access on my mini Dell, and also on my desktop - which does have CD writer etc if I needed to download files. Or can that be done on memory stick?

Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated. [minus the 'dumb woman' remarks!!! I've beat myself up sufficiently]

    Thanks so much

The laptop I messed up is Inspiron 1525 that came with Windows Vista. The disc I used came with my Inspiron Mini 10 that came with Windows XP.

The 'other devices' with the errors in Device Manager are:

Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus (2 of them)
Base System Device (3 of them)
    Ethernet Controller
Modem Defice on High Definition Audio Bus
    Network Controller
    SM Bus Controller
    Video Controller
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Just to be absolutely sure I don't do anything else wrong - can you please confirm that I should download from the link given, using my mini laptop with internet, save the files to a memory stick and then install as stated on the laptop that currently has no internet (and the missing drivers!)

    Thanks.

The XP licence does not allow for it to be installed on more than one machine therefore this second XP operating system is not genuine as as such we cannot provide assistance.

I have no choice but to close this thread.
