reinstalling windows 98

    is it possible to reinstall windows 98 WITHOUT deleting the files on my hardrive. :confused:
    any help welcomed

    Hi Comet!

    You can reinstall Windows 98 over itself and, if you take some precautions, you should have no problem doing it.
    It should not effect any of your data or other installed programs, but a back-up of vital info is always a good idea, just in case. If you're lucky enough to have a second drive and keep all that stuff there, then just go ahead with the re-installation.

    Note that there are considerable disadvantages in reinstalling windows over itself as it may lead to other problems...

    If you have the original install CD, and would like to run System File Checker to see if it helps clear any problems you are having right now, try this;

    Click Start>Run...
    Type 'sfc' (no quotes)
    Click 'OK'
