Running compaq presario 7360 with win 98se, have an icon in control panel, unable to remove. It's a program Macfee anti virus which I uninstalled way back when. Has no effect on operarion but is annoying.
    Thanx

Wondering have you removed the entire program from add/remove?

The vast majority of these control panel icons are in the Windows\system folder. Do a search for all cpl files using an asterisk as a wild card (*.cpl) and look for one that begins with something like mac....cpl.

When you have identified the one that you want to get rid of just highlight it and hit delete. If the program has been uninstlled properly this should get rid of the orphan icon file.

Don't delete it from the recycle bin though until you have been back to control panel to make sure that the one that you want to get rid of is the one that has disappeared!
