I want ot remove certain programs in my registry, running windows 10. I have a number of security programs installed but not using. things like McAfee, Samantec etc. I see them listed with a minus sign to the left. Can I go in and just delete them. Look forward to your reply. Gary

    No.

Windows may become unstable if registry keys are simply removed. Even though the programs may not be actively in use, Windows may still need the program's settings for proper operation.

Thanks for the quick response. reason I ma asking about removing is I just installed Advast. They say the other security programs could interfer with Advast and they should be removed. I am sure it is possible but may be over my head. Your thoughts. Gary

If you use an uninstaller program like Revo Uninstaller or Geek Uninstaller, those programs uninstall then scan the registry and give you a list of what it finds so you can have the uninstaller program remove them.

Security programs are very hard to uninstall. A lot of them have a cleanup tool that will get rid of the leftovers.
