    The extensions should be .lnk.

Why a batch file for that?

thanks I tried .lnk but it didn't work I use a batch file to download a frequently updated application (actually monthly); after installation, the application places shortcuts in the Desktop and the Start Menu; with the batch file, it will delete the shortcuts after installation

Did you enclose the path in quotes?

    example: "%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\YourShortcut.lnk"

If it failed, what error message did you get when the batch executed?

    You can also use:

    DEL /q "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Belarc Advisor.lnk"

    All the best, dude
