    Hi

I am currently running Vista Home Basic that came pre installed on my laptop (Acer Extensa 5220) & I want to downgrade to XP, but no matter what I try to remove Vista it just won't work.

When I boot with XP Pro disc it says it can't find my hard drive (yet works as Virtual Machine)
When I try to format C:, tells me i'm not allowed.

Is there any others ways, such as DISKPART.exe or something?

Before you attempt a downgrade make sure that ...

    1) You have obtained Windows XP compatible drivers for ALL of the hardware in your laptop. If the Acer web site does not offer them, you may be able to track down and download the correct drivers from the different hardware manufacturer's web sites.

    2) Have a way of reinstalling Vista on the computer should you not be able to complete the XP downgrade. A separate set of recovery discs is best as there is a small possibility that a recovery partition on the hard drive may get removed or corrupted during the downgrade process.

Are you trying to install Windows XP from a full retail version installation disc?
