repairing xp home

    i'm trying to repair my son's comp.,when i put in the installation disk to repair xp it promts me that it couldn't copy driver.cab,thentells me either to exit or skip, windows won't operate properly if i skip.decide to skip and while installing it prompts the file'asms' on windows xp home edition service pack 1 cd is needed.type the path where the file is located. E:\. what am i doing wrong?

    Your CD Rom drive might be D: at least until XP re-installs itself. Is this a XP Home CD with SP1 already on it or a Recovery CD? Does it give you an option to "browse" to the file?
