    I'm pretty sure the fan (since the only running parts are the fans) is going out on my desktop PC (intermittent LOUD WHIRRING SOUND). It looks like there are only screws holding the housing and the wires are easy to unplug. This HAS to be a common problem for these things. I'm pretty sure I can do it myself.

    I just want to know if these REPLACEMENT FANS are generic, 'one size fits all' items that can be bought at any electronic store?? Or are they actually 'manufacturer specific' parts??

    And if I'm getting into something I shouldn't do, PLEASE ADVISE ME!?
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

    Nope simply plug and play.

    Just make sure your new one has same pins as old one. Some are 3 pin and some are 4.

    Make sure when installing new one, you follow the arrows imprinted on it so you have the right airflow.

    @metallica5456 ...
    YAY!!!
    I thought so! I'm SO happy I don't have to find someone else to fix this! THANK YOU!
    Before I mark this solved, I just want to make sure... There are only 3 & 4 pin parts? So, I can't get the wrong fan unless I can't count to 4? LoL
    THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!

    As far as I know. FWIW, post a pic of the old fan and I can direct you to a replacement.

    @metallica5456 -
    Here 's the old fan. I was trying to look for one online. There must be BILLIONS of these replacement fans. I have no idea which one to get, so if you give me a few make & models, I'll be getting one with confidence.
    Thank you so much for your help!
