REQ: Sound recording using Sond recorder of WindowsXP

i tried to record sound through sound recorder(windows)-playing the song in Windows media player.
But when i clicked the Start button onthe recorder, no sond was recorded jsut a straight line was seen ..no sound recording waves ware seen.

please anybody can tell me any changes to properties or any setup changes has to be made.

Are you saying you tried to record music playing on your computer with Windws sound recorder? If so you can't do that but you can with the free Audacity you can record any sound playing on your computer. It is free also. Excellent.

Playback: DEVICE: Intel(r) Integrated Audio
Recording: Device : Intel(r) Integrated Audio
channels: 2 {stereo}


Any setting changes has to be done in Windows -- > Control pnel---> Sounds And Audio devices properties

Here is a link with setting up but i have been using the program for a good while and the only setting i messed was in the middle there where you have those options. Set it to sterio mix. I have had no trouble recording anything.
