I just read an article on Techdirt regarding iTunes users paying $1 for MP3 songs. It went on to suggest a reseller program allowing users to resell their purchased music at a "used" price. Is this illegal?

Why am i able to purchase a CD at HMV and then later sell it to a friend (or whoever) for cheaper lwithout any fear of legal action? Why cant i do the same for purchased iTunes/BuyMusic songs?

Well for one thing you probably don't have a vender's license! Those songs have a little thing on them called a COPYRIGHT. If the owners of that copyright didn't give you express permission to represent their music, then it's illegal to make a profit with it. You would expect the same protection if you were an artist.
