I recently purchased a old laptop from a friend that came with some outdated software. Can I legally sell the stuff if I want to?

Depends on the software and the "version", as a lot of software that is bundled with a PC at purchase time is "OEM" (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in nature and the license type is that it cannot often be transferred and lives and dies on that particular PC.

But without knowing what the "software" actually is, we cannot comment in any more detail.

I am not sure. How can I tell. It says not to make illegal copies of the disc. It is microsoft works suite 2002. I only have two of the five disc's but I didnt' want to just throw them away. :)

If you only have 2 of the 5 disks, its probably not going to be much good. To install you probably need the lot.

Unless MS Word is on the first 2, it's of no use at all.
MS Works was often bundled OEM, but it would most likely say "Only for distribution with a new PC" in my experience, if it was OEM. You need the CD Key as well.
